Dorsal spines (total): 16 - 18; Dorsal soft rays (total): 9 - 11; Anal spines: 3; Anal soft rays: 8 - 9. Males from the northern populations with a bright orange patch on shoulder (absent in southern populations) (Ref. 40898).
