Polyzoniidae
Description
Members of this family are distinguished by the follows characters. Body size ranging from small to large, that of Angarozonium species not exceeding 11 mm in length; coloration commonly pale white or yellowish with a pattern of light brown to brown spots and stripes on dorsum, pleura, telson and legs as in species of Angarozonium; tergites very short but very broad, also strongly attached to each other, caudal metatergal margins not elevated; smooth and bare metatergites devoid of bulges, paraterga or wings and middorsal suture; collum overlapping part of head in some polyzoniids; telson narrow; penes either short, reaching only leg pair 3, or long, reaching leg pair 5 – 7, located caudoventrad or well dorsad; anterior gonopod sternum modified, apically with paramedial setose projections or a fovea and setae, as in some species of Angarozonium; anterior gonopod coxae usually carrying processes; telopodite of anterior gonopods placed parallel to main axis or lying subperpendicularly to proximal segments.
