Facultative air-breathing in the genus (Ref. 126274); Commonly found throughout the lower altitudes of the Sepik River basin, preferring still waters of floodplain lakes, swamps and inundated floodplain. Rarely found in the main river channel. Feeds mainly on the eleotrid fish Ophieleotris aporos and large crustaceans such as Macrobrachium prawns. Also caught using pots, handlines harpoons, hand nets, scoop nets, and others. Female reaches 39.6 cm SL (Ref. 9162).
