  • South America: Amazon River basin, restricted to Peruvian and adjacent Brazilian black-water river systems (collected in the lower Nanay, Mazán and Tigre in Peru, near Leticia in Colombia, and in Igarapé Preto and Lago Tefé in Brazil).
  • Biology


    Grows larger in aquaria, the largest being a male measuring 4.65 cm SL (Ref. 9088). Eggs are deposited on the ceiling of caves and are tendered by the female parent (Ref. 2060).
