Dorsal spines (total): 8; Dorsal soft rays (total): 9; Anal spines: 2; Anal soft rays: 8. A species distinguished by 4 narrow dark stripes, the first from nape along base of first and second dorsal fin, the second from above the eye to upper caudal peduncle, the third from eye along lateral-line scales fading prior to caudal peduncle, the fourth midlateral from front of snout to end of caudal fin; pectoral rays 15; well-developed gill rakers 15, total with rudiments 19; first dorsal-fin spines 7 (Ref. 58479).
