Dorsal spines (total): 1; Dorsal soft rays (total): 7 - 8; Anal spines: 1; Anal soft rays: 5. Can be distinguished by the following combination of characters: presence of heavy serrae along complete posterior pectoral spine margin; presence of narrow odontode free area along anterior margin of snout; anal fin with 5 branched rays; lateral line canal incomplete and discontinuous with an anterior field bearing 2-7 pores and posterior field with 8-19 pores (Ref. 75967).

    Biology


    Facultative air-breathing in the genus (Ref. 126274); Found in between aquatic plants (species of Ludwigia and Potamogeton) and on leaves of terrestrial plants hanging into the water (Ref. 75967). Occurs in a small, shallow creek with muddy soil and clear, slow-flowing water and also in creek with regions of rapid and slow flowing water, with loose stones, and gravel at the bottom and with dense vegetation in the margins (Ref. 75967).
