Description


This species can be distinguished from all congeners except K. chapadae and K. geryi by the following characters: 6 rows of scales between the lateral line and the dorsal-fin origin (vs. 4 or 5 rows); differs from K. chapadae by possessing 5 rows of scales between the lateral line and the pelvic-fin origin (vs. 3½ or 4); 38-41 lateral line scales (vs. 36-38); differs from K. geryi by having 5 rows of scales between the lateral line and the pelvic-fin origin (vs. 4); 17-20 branched anal-fin rays (vs. 15-17), and in lacking the 2 symmetric, large, dark, blotches, which are present on the base of the caudal-fin lobes in K. geryi (Ref. 75798).

    Biology


    The are of occurrence, río Shinahota, is a typical Andean piedmont drainage, with medium water velocity; mainly gravel and pebbles substrate; some years the river has an intermittent flow. This riparian forest is degraded and the river polluted by domestic waste (Ref. 75798).
