Dorsal soft rays (total): 8; Anal soft rays: 6. This species is distinguished by the following characters: snout with a distinct short and unilobed proboscis; small to medium-sized unicuspid acanthoid tubercles on transverse lobe 15-18; lateral-line scales 31-32; predorsal scales 9-10; circumpeduncular scales 16; two black spots, one at the upper angle of the gill opening and the other behind the median posterior margin of the opercle (Ref. 128962).
