Description
Dorsal soft rays (total): 13; Anal soft rays: 8. Hypselobarbus gracilis can be distinguished from H. dubius in having 11 predorsal scale rows (vs. 14), 13-14 circumpeduncular scale rows (vs. 18-19), 23-24 circumferential scale rows (vs. 30-33), 30-31 preanal scale rows (vs. 34-38), and maxillary barbel length 36.25-40.16% HL (vs. 21.23-34.94 %HL). It differs from H. micropogon in having 13-14 circumpeduncular scale rows (vs. 16-18), 23-24 circumferential scale rows (vs. 26-29) and the morphometric characters postdorsal length 55.20-56.49 %SL (vs. 46.99-53.93 %SL) and interorbital width 32.49-33.21 % HL (vs. 34.70-41.76 %HL). It can be diagnosed rom H. nilgiriensis in having 11 predorsal scale rows (vs. 15), 13-14 circumpeduncular scale rows (vs. 18-19), and 23-24 circumferential scale rows (vs. 34-35) (Ref. 110275).
